The Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act,
introduced last Monday by Delegate Mike Manypenny from Taylor County, aims to amend state law so that physician-supervised patients with an authorized chronic or debilitating medical condition can possess six plants and up to an ounce of usable marijuana for medical purposes. The measure also allows for the establishment compassion centers to dispense medical cannabis to qualified patients. Read the bill

Unfortunately, not quite yet. This summer looks hopeful for the legislation moving forward, but we may have to wait until next year before it sees the House floor. Drew Stromberg, President of WVU Students for Sensible Drug Policy said, “The bill didn’t make the agenda this session, but we’re hoping we can have it introduced during the interim session this summer.”
Since the bill was introduced, SSDP has been very busy gearing up to launch a state-wide campaign. Drew commented, “This past week has been crazy. We’ve been driving back and forth to Charleston, talking with delegates and setting up meetings. I really think we can make medical marijuana a reality in West Virginia and it’s very exciting to be this close.”
