The Morgantown Farmer’s Market and the Morgantown community are celebrating the long-awaited Grand Opening of the new “Morgantown Market Place” on Saturday, September 22, from 8:00am to 1:00pm. The new structure is located at the corner of Fayette and Spruce Streets.
The schedule of events for this community celebration include:
8:00am Dedication of new shelter with remarks from the Mayor and Mainstreet Morgantown Board President and (still confirming) the Governor of West Virginia
8:30am Ribbon Cutting & Bell Ringing, featuring Montie, the WVU Healthcare Mascot
8:45am Richwood Grill Cooking Demo Kick Off
9:30am Green Morning Workshop on “Slow Food for Health, Quality, Savings, and the Environment”
10:00am Vendor demonstrations on how they make their products
1:00pm Market Close
WVU Healthcare, a major contributor to the new farmers’ market shelter, will have a healthcare booth offering blood pressure checks, a “Talk to a Nurse” program, and other health information.
The “Green Morning” workshop will address the benefits to consumers of fresh, local, and sustainable food products in terms of health and nutrition, savings, and quality, not to mention boosting the local economy and protecting the environment. This is a special event in the series of “Green Nights at the Library” for 2012 sponsored by the Morgantown Green Team and the Mountain Institute.
Select local vendors will also demonstrate how they make their products, possibly including cheese, wool, and apple juice. These demonstrations will continue through the end of the market day at 1:00pm.
