Freeway (Philly) -Rhymesayers and G Unit Philly
http://rhymesayers.com/freeway

Best known for his tenure on Roc-A-Fella Records and his affiliation with Jay-Z and Beanie Sigel, he is recognized by his high-pitched delivery and for the long beard he keeps due to his Muslim faith. His moniker is derived from the name of the infamous drug trafficker “Freeway” Ricky Ross. He was a member of the rap group Ice City, is a member of the rap group State Property and recently signed to Cash Money Records but only lasted one and a half years with the label. Freeway is now with are Rhymesayers Entertainment and G-Unit Philly.

In 2003 Freeway released his debut album Philadelphia Freeway, solidifying himself as a force to be reckoned with amongst the other stars of the Roc. After achieving gold status (selling over 500,000 units), Freeway played an instrumental role in establishing he and Beans’ Philly crew State Property. It seemed as though Freeway was on an unstoppable roll. But as life teaches us all good things must come to an end…and the next four years found State Property head Beanie Sigel convicted of federal weapons charges, group turmoil and most importantly the historic breakup of the Roc-A-Fella dynasty of Jay-Z and Dame Dash.
With all the chaos, Freeway, a devout Muslim, accepted an opportunity to travel to the holy city of Mecca on Hajj (a journey required by every Muslim at least once in his or her lifetime if he or she is able to). Upon his return, Freeway recorded his long-awaited sophomore release, Free at Last. Uncertain about his standing amongst all the label drama, Freeway found a new ally with Hip Hop heavyweight 50 Cent and a deal was brokered to have Jay-Z and 50 Cent co-executive produce the album. While both were featured on the record, the project ended up solely a Roc-A-Fella release, with 50 giving up his co-executive producer’s role. Released in 2007, Free at Last was a moderate success but unfortunately lacked the label focus and attention of his debut release.
Never one to complain or sit stagnant, Freeway got on his grind and started blasting the internet and the streets with mixtapes, remixes and free tracks, raising his profile to new levels. In 2008, Freeway would reconnect with producer Jake One (who produced on his sophomore outing, Free at Last) to record two tracks for his Rhymesayers debut, White Van Music. The sessions not only resulted in two of the album’s highlights, including the classic collaboration with Brother Ali called “The Truth”, but numerous additional songs that showed a real connection between the G-Unit beatsmith and Freeway.
With his release from Roc-A-Fella records, the path had been set for Freeway’s next official album, The Stimulus Package. The Stimulus Package presented an opportunity to not only take it back to the basics of: one Producer, one MC, but also provide a chance for Freeway to spread his independent wings and give something special back to Hip Hop, the culture that saved his life years earlier on those North Philly streets.
The Stimulus Package was released by indie powerhouse Rhymesayers Entertainment on February, 16th 2010 and features guest appearances by Beanie Sigel, Raekwon, Young Chris, Birdman, Bun-B, Latoiya Williams, Omillio Sparks and Mr. Porter.

Ground Up (Philadelphia)

Ground Up is a hip-hop trio that resides in Philadelphia. The group members include a producer that goes by Bij Lincs; whose eccentric style and uncanny musical talent is complimentary to the witty wordplay and thoughtful lyrics of the two MC’s, AZAR & MALAKAI. The combination of relentless work as well as a grass-roots marketing strategy has enabled the group to accumulate fans exponentially whil…e simultaneously releasing quality music. Along the way, Ground Up has grown notorious for its live shows; touring at school such as WVU, Temple U, West Chester, UVA, Cornell, Cheyney U, Pittsburgh U, Lincoln U to name a few. Ground Up has also opened up for renowned artists such as Wu-Tang Clan, Asher Roth, Rick Ross, Chiddy Bang, The Nappy Roots, Meek Millz, Gucci Mane, and Chris Webby. Since launching in just 2008, Ground Up has released 10 acclaimed mixtapes, with an eleventh currently in the works that promises to be the most compelling of them all. With the help of their loyal fans, the strong team behind them, and the group’s ability to stay creative, it seems nothing will stop Bij Lincs, AZAR, or MALAKAI from making music their way – from the Ground Up.Support the Ground Up movement!

Soundvizion (Morgantown)

Ace Beanz, Thack, Thrilla, and DJ Monstalung
For over a decade Soundvizion Entertainment has been at the forefront of WV Hip Hop. Led by DJ Monstalung who has produced tracks for nearly 20 years and organized a complete roster of talent from rap, hip hop, and R&B artists to his current Dj/Drummer project 808 Circus. Founder of Soundvizion Entertainment, Monstalung has managed the careers of many WV artists. Ace Beanz is one of those artists and one of the most proven veterans of WV hip hop. The self proclaimed Prince of the Park has traveled the country performing sharing the stage with artists such as Drake, Trina, Bubba Sparxx, Killer Mike, Bonecrusher, Trick Daddy, Young Dro, Pac Div, and many more.Young Thack and Shon Thrilla are rising newcomers in the WV rap scene. This duo has paid their dues and quickly moved through the ranks with their own branch off of Soundvizion, Phyr Squad. Along with Mizzle and Hazy Phyr Squad is an energetic stage crushing group that constantly keeps a crowd moving. Thack and Thrilla are now exploring their solo careers but are yin and yang when they step on the stage.

Dinosaur Burps (Charleston, WV)

From the ashes of the Rabble Rousers, one of the most legendary hip-hop groups in West Virginia rose the Dinosaur Burps. Consisting of B. Rude and Vivid Hues on the mic, and DJ Sour Sqweazle on the 1 (not 1’s and 2’s, the 1), the Burps are one of the hardest touring and hardest partying groups in the state, and perhaps the stratosphere. They were both members of the thrash punk band ‘Mario Van Pee…balls’ and the George Thorogood and the Destroyers cover band ‘Jorge Thorohood and the Breakers of Stuff.’ As the legend goes, they have been asked to leave, but then let back in the next day at the same bar a total of 836 consecutive days in a row, and invented the words “shit” and “fuck.” They once skunked Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine 11-0 in a table tennis championship game, but since skunking is not an official rule they actually went on to beat them 21-0. Inspired by the Canadian duo the Queef Sisters, they are occasionally joined by Mic Rude and L-NO to form the Dinosaur Queefs, and in this incarnation once broke a good friend out of prison using nothing but a laser pointer and a rogue circus elephant. It is also common knowledge amongst the hill people that 80-90% of things attributed to Chuck Norris or that guy from the Dos Equis commercials were in fact done by the Dinosaur Burps. Everyone’s biting their shit.

Iliicit (Morgantown,WV)

The new school has arrived in the form of Mevy and Dyno otherwise known as Illicit. These Morgantown natives are hitting the scene running with crowd pleasing tracks that keeps the crowd motivated.
