In the early morning hours of June 24th 2016, 10 inches of rain fell on southern West Virginia in 2 hours leading to widespread flash flooding. 23 people lost their lives and thousands of others were left homeless. 44 of the 55 counties in West Virginia were effected and under a state of emergency. It quickly became clear the recovery was going be a long process that would require an enormous amount of funding and cooperation.<\/p>\n

Quickly across the state relief efforts have been mobilized to reduce the impact and suffering of our fellow West Virginians. Morgantown being the home of the flag ship institution West Virgnia University was a natural vantage point for which gather resources and organize relief. With the help of many sponsors, Morgantown\u2019s artistic community has organized a night of music and art at the 123 Pleasant Street to raise funds for the relief and restoration of flood victims lives. All proceeds raised will be donated to the Greenbriar county United Way where 100% is distributed locally.<\/p>\n

Morgantown\u2019s diverse musical community is represented in this line-up of talented artists:<\/p>\n

Chris Allen<\/a>-They can ignore the name. They can ignore the videos. They can ignore all the promos and business cards, but they can\u2019t ignore the music. The rapper, singer, and songwriter hailing from Southeast Washington, DC; Chris Allen is a man with vision.Chris, a senior at West Virginia University, won the 2015 King of the Burgh contest in Pittsburgh, PA and the 2016 WVU Battle of the Bands. Tom Batchelor Band<\/a>– Reggae, rock, and island styles combine to create an enticing danceable mix of fun and musicianship. With over 25 years of experience, Tom was a founding member of Morgantown band Rasta Rafiki, and now leads a stellar group of musicians. Releasing two full length original CD\u2019s 2006\u2019s \u201cRunes\u201d and 2014\u2019s \u201cMoon vs Mars\u201d the Tom Batchelor Band has continued to perform live across the area to enthusiastic crowds. 18 Strings<\/a>-three members come from different musical backgrounds spanning everything from jazz to folk, and rock to classical. The result is a seam- less fusion of styles that incorporates smart songwriting, tight harmonies, refined instrumental technique, and an airtight groove.<\/p>\n

Mother Brown<\/a>-is a band made up of guys who love to play music for fun and profit. All of its members have a long history of playing and are happy to help out the victims of the recent flooding.<\/p>\n

The Event begins at 9PM and will include an art instillation by the Artist Collective of West Virginia.
